Srinagar, October 19, 2023 – A remarkable art exhibition, titled “SANGAM,” is set to grace the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on the 20th of October, 2023. Dr. Archana Jha Choudhary, a prominent artist, brings together the captivating worlds of Basholi miniature and Madhubani paintings in a unique confluence of artistry.
The exhibition is scheduled to commence at 12:00 PM and will be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Shri. Manoj Sinha, adding a touch of prestige to the event.Basholi miniature painting, often hailed as the initial school of Pahari painting, originated in the picturesque Jammu region. This art form is renowned for its vivid, evocative colors, bold lines, and deep-set facial patterns.
It is characterized by the masterful use of bold and vibrant hues, intricate patterns, and geometric designs. A distinctive feature of Basholi painting is its blend of folk art inspired by Hindu mythology and Mughal techniques.In contrast, Madhubani paintings, also known as Mithila paintings, trace their origins to the ancient times in the Mithila region of Bihar.
These paintings have been instrumental in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of their respective regions.Dr. Archana Jha Choudhary’s journey as an artist reflects the union of these two diverse art forms. She inherited the legacy of Madhubani painting and, upon relocating to Jammu and Kashmir in the early 1990s, acquired the skills of Basholi painting.
Art enthusiasts, students, and the general public are cordially invited to witness this extraordinary exhibition, which will be open for viewing from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM. “SANGAM” promises to be a visual journey through the rich tapestry of Indian art, celebrating the cultural diversity of Basholi and Madhubani paintings.
