Srinagar, Apr 10:

Journalist Asif Sultan, who was granted bail earlier this week in a UAPA case, has been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).

Speaking with The Kashmir Walla, Rakesh Balwal, the senior superintendent of police, Srinagar, confirmed that Sultan has been booked under PSA and shifted to Kot Bhalwal jail, in the Jammu division.

Sultan was earlier bailed by a special court under NIA Act in Srinagar after nearly four years in prison. He was later handed over to Police Station Batamaloo, in Srinagar, where he remained detained. The Kashmir Walla did not have access to Sultan’s PSA dossier or grounds of detention by the time this report was filed.

Sultan was arrested on 27 August 2018 on accusations of “harnessing known militants”, the police earlier said — a charge that has been repeatedly rejected by his family.
