Speakers urge citizens to contribute towards district’s holistic growth, stress on inclusivity
BARAMULLA, JUNE 14:
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today called upon the public to actively contribute towards making Baramulla a prosperous and progressive district. Emphasizing collective responsibility, he encouraged citizens to take initiative and play a constructive role across all sectors viz. education, entrepreneurship, sports, and overall development.
DC Sherpa highlighted that sustainable growth can only be achieved through active civic engagement and community driven efforts. He stressed the importance of unity, innovation, and commitment in building a brighter future for the district.
He was addressing a grand function to celebrate ‘Varmul Day’ organized by Varmul Civil Society here today commemorating the district’s cultural legacy, public service milestones, and social contributions of its citizens.
Mufti Abdul Raheem Sahab,MLA Baramulla, Javaid Hassan Beigh; MLA Uri, Dr.Sajad Shafi; MLA Sopore, Irshad Ahmad Kar; MLA Wagoora Kreeri, Irfan Hafiz Lone; Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Feroz Yahya, Karamat Qayoom Chairman Baramulla Working Journalist Association, Chaiman Varmul Civil Society, Eng Tariq Ahmad Mughloo, ,and other prominent personalities participated in the celebration.
Minga Sherpa appreciated the Varmul Civil Society for organizing such a meaningful event, saying, “I take this opportunity to urge all those present to avail benefits from PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), and other flagship schemes of the Government.”
He further informed the gathering that both the Solid Waste Management Plant and Sewerage Treatment Plant for Baramulla town have been sanctioned, with a public hearing scheduled on July 1, and expressed hope that the work on these critical projects will commence very soon.
Varmul Day, celebrated once every four years, honors outstanding contributions in public service with the prestigious ‘Sitare Zeenat,’ the highest award in public service in Baramulla.
This year, eminent personalities who were honoured with the ‘Sitare Zeenat’ award for their remarkable public service included renowned religious scholar, late Maulana Syed Abul Wali Geelani @Movlana Wali Shah Sahib and late Maulana Ghulam Rasool Makhdoomi, who served as Imami Hai of Baramulla for many decades.former Minister, Harbans Singh Azad, Founders of Public School Baramulla.
The legislators from various assembly constituencies of Baramulla underscored that ‘Varmul Day’ is not just a celebration of our district, but a reflection of the values we collectively uphold which we must continue to nurture and work together for a brighter, inclusive future of Baramulla.
Speakers highlighted the role of the family and society in combating drug menace and other social evils. They laid stress on social cohesion, communal harmony and mutual trust for building a strong and stable society.
Chairman of the Varmul Civil Society, Tariq Ahmad Magloo in his remarks said that Varmul Day is our way of acknowledging silent warriors among us such as teachers, doctors, civil servants, ulema and volunteers who work tirelessly for a better society.
