Students boycott classes at Delhi Public School; administration intervenes, principal apologises; school shut for a day.

Baramulla, April 10:A major protest broke out at Delhi Public School (DPS) Baramulla on Friday after students boycotted classes and staged demonstrations against the principal over alleged objectionable remarks, prompting swift intervention by the district administration.
Students gathered on the school grounds, raising slogans against the principal and the management, and demanding immediate action. The protest was triggered by remarks allegedly made a day earlier, which students claimed were offensive towards a particular religion.
Tensions escalated when private security personnel and staff reportedly attempted to force students back into classrooms, leading to further unrest.
As the situation intensified, officials from the district administration and police including additional Deputy Commisioner Baramulla, Additional SP Baramulla, Tehsildar Baramulla, Deputy Chief Education Officer rushed to the campus and assured students that appropriate action would be taken. The incident also drew concerned parents to the school premises.
In a bid to defuse the situation, authorities facilitated a joint meeting between parents and the school administration. Following the discussions, the principal issued a public apology to the students for the remarks.
Taking note of the sensitivity of the issue, the school later announced closure for the following day as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, sources said the Deputy Chief Education Officer, Baramulla, has called a meeting with the school management to review the functioning of the institution and examine the circumstances leading to the incident.
