Baramulla, December 2, 2024:

The Baramulla Working Journalist Association (BWJA) held an important meeting of its Core Group today at Dakbanglow Baramulla. The meeting was chaired by BWJA Chairman Haji Karamat Qayoom, alongside President Zargar Gulzar, and covered several critical agenda items, including the expansion of the Core Group, the designation of official bearers, and the initiation of a new membership drive.

The session commenced with discussions on the expansion of the Core Group. A list of senior members was proposed, which included Nisar Yatoo, Irshad Bhat, Yaqoob Lala, Majeed Sheeri, Abid Nabi, Sheikh Dawood, Ashiq Mir, Mudasir Ahmad, Rahi Nisar, and B.A. Sagar. Following deliberations, it was unanimously decided that two members would be inducted into the Core Group through a randomization process. Consequently, senior members Sheikh Dawood and Mudasir Malla were selected. It was clarified that members of the Core Group will not hold any specific portfolio within the BWJA.

Subsequently, a committee was formed to work under the leadership of President Zargar Gulzar. The official designations of the committee members are as follows:

  • General Secretary: Umar Rashid
  • Secretary: Ashiq Mir
  • Joint Secretary: Abid Nabi
  • Treasurer: Manzoor Sheeri
  • Chief Spokesman/Grievance Redressal Officer: Altaf Baba
  • Advisors to President: Bhat Irshad
  • Yaqoob Lala
  • Arshid Farooq
  • Event/Media Coordinator: Majeed Sheeri
  • Convener: Rahi Nisar
  • Coordinator: B.A. Sagar

Additionally, a Working Committee was framed, with representatives from various tehsils:

  • Fayaz Bukhari (Tehsil Narvaw)
  • Zaffar Iqbal (Tehsil Uri)
  • Peerzada Junaid (Tehsil Sopore)
  • Iqbal Amin (Tehsil Rafiabad)
  • Latief Ahmad Bhat (Tehsil Pattan) The meeting concluded with the announcement of a new membership drive, which will commence on December 5, 2024, and run until December 20, 2024. Interested journalists are encouraged to apply by filling out the membership form available from December 5. The BWJA Committee reserves the right to accept or reject membership applications.
