BJP president J.P. Nadda made the announcement on Saturday evening, calling Dhankhar ‘kisan putra’.

West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has been named as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-National Democratic Alliance’s vice-presidential candidate.
“After all considerations and consultations, we have decided to announce kisan putra (farmer’s son) Jagdeep Dhankhar as the BJP and NDA’s candidate for Vice President,” said BJP president J.P. Nadda at a press conference on Saturday, according to NDTV.
Nadda said Dhankhar had established himself as a “people’s governor”.
Dhankhar has often been in news for his run-ins with West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and her party the Trinamool Congress.
The term of current Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu will end on August 6.
