Police on Sunday said that in a remarkable display of team work, scientific investigation, diligence, and professional accumen, Jammu Police, South Zone has uncovered the murder of a woman initially projected as a natural death, uncovered incidently a day after the visit of chairperson of national women commission.

In a handout to News Agency ,the police said that acting swiftly and with meticulous attention to available evidence, Police Station Bahu Fort under the command of Inspr. Sushil Choudhary arrested the husband of the deceased woman, solving a case that had remained unreported for nearly a month. The investigation was conducted under the close supervision of SSP Jammu, with overall monitoring by SP South and SDPO East, ensuring a thorough and time-bound probe.

On 26.09.2025, Ms. Sabina Sunuwar D/o Akbar Khan R/o Dhol Wali Gali, Nai Basti, Jammu lodged a written complaint regarding the suspicious death of her sister Simriti Sunwar W/o Tej Pal Singh R/o Mangnar, District Poonch A/P Trikuta Nagar Extension, Jammu.

The complainant stated that on 26.08.2025, her brother-in-law Tej Pal Singh S/o Subash Singh took his wife for alleged medical treatment. However, on 27.08.2025, he returned with her dead body and conducted her cremation at Shastri Nagar Cremation Ground in a hurried manner to conceal evidence, without getting postmortem conducted and without informing law enforcement agency.

The complainant further alleged that the deceased had been subjected to cruelty, bore suspicious ligature marks on her neck, and that there were financial disputes between the couple over the purchase of a new house. Photographs supporting these allegations were submitted.

Based on the complaint, FIR No. 286/2025 U/S 103 BNS was registered at Police Station Bahu Fort. A professional investigation team, including the FSL team and crime photographer, inspected the rented accommodation and collected relevant evidence. Statements of witnesses were recorded.

On the basis of the scientific examination and gathered evidence, the accused Tej Pal Singh was arrested on 27.09.2025 by Police Station Bahu Fort. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
