Srinagar, Jan 15, :

Authorities on Thursday detained a Patwari and a Chowkidar in the Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district after a field raid by the Anti Corruption Bureau allegedly uncovered a bribery transaction, officials said.

Officials said the operation was carried out by a Srinagar based team of the Anti Corruption Bureau, headed by ASP Makhan Singh. The action followed a complaint lodged by Mohd Rafiq Sheere, son of Lassa Sheere and a resident of Soafshali.

According to officials, during the raid at the Patwari Khana in Bidder, Kokernag, Patwari Muneeb Farooq Mala, son of Farooq Ahmed Mala of Qaimoh in Kulgam district and presently posted as Patwari Halqa Soafshali Panzgam, was caught red handed while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant.

They said the concerned Chowkidar, identified as Farooq Ahmed Wani, son of Abdul Gani of Soafshali, was also taken into custody during the operation.

Officials said further investigation into the matter is in progress.
