Police in Budgam on Thursday carried out a series of searches at residences and institutes linked with the banned organisation Jamaat e Islami following inputs about suspected unlawful activities.

Officials said the searches were conducted in Chadoora, Soibugh and Beerwah areas based on credible intelligence indicating that some JeI operatives were allegedly involved in anti national activities.

The search teams included police officers, lady police personnel and local numberdars and the operations were carried out strictly as per due legal procedure. During the searches, police seized various electronic devices and documents from the premises of JeI-linked individuals and institutes.

Officials said the action is aimed at dismantling the support network and propaganda structures of the proscribed organisation. Police said such drives are part of sustained efforts to ensure peace and a militant-free environm
