Srinagar, October 4 :

In a significant order, the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar on Saturday rejected the bail applications of a police officer and several others accused in a high-profile custodial torture case being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The accused include DySP Ajaz Ahmad Naik, Riyaz Ahmad Mir, and six others – Tanveer Ahmad Malla, Altaf Hussain Bhat, Mohammad Younis Khan, Shakir Hussain Khoja, Shahnawaz Ahmad Deedad, and Jehangir Ahmad Beigh. Their pleas were heard in connection with an FIR (RC-8(S)/2025) registered by the CBI on July 26, 2025, under serious charges including criminal conspiracy, attempt to murder, wrongful confinement, and grievous hurt.

According to the prosecution, the victim was kept in illegal confinement and subjected to repeated physical assaults and torture, resulting in grievous injuries including fractures and mutilation of genitalia. Medical reports from SKIMS Soura and GMC Barzulla, along with CCTV footage, corroborated custodial violence. From Prosecution side Zahoor Ahmad Malik CBI Prosecutor argued the case.

The Court noted that evidence on record, including witness statements, medical records, and CCTV footage, reflected a systematic pattern of abuse under the knowledge of senior officers. The order observed that the supervisory role of accused No. 1 Ajaz Ahmad Naik and the command position of accused No. 2 Riyaz Ahmad Mir pointed towards complicity.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Aadil Mushtaq Ahmad, while pronouncing the order, held that the bail applications were “devoid of merit and rejected”, clarifying that the observations would not prejudice the trial. Copies of the order have been furnished to the counsels free of cost.
