GUREZ JUNE 6 :

A Cleanliness drive was Sunday held at main market Dawar in Gurez valley with an aim to attract tourists to the beautiful tourism destination.

Several organisations including Hoteliers Association Gurez, Helping Hands Society, Youth of Dawar, Local Administration and Army took part in the drive.

SDM Gurez Dr. Mudasir Ahmad Wani flagged off the event from main Chowk Dawar and the rally culminated at the Sumo stand Dawar after completing the Cleanliness drive over a radius of 3.5 km circle of the town.

The organizers of the event said that the main motive behind this event was to give a strong message to the world that despite being a remote valley facing multiple challenges, hardships and lack of proper infrastructure, the people of Gurez are united in conserving and developing this beautiful heaven into a tourist destination.

Pertinent to mention here is that this drive also officially marked the first step towards the upcoming annual Gurez festival which has been remodeled as Jashn-e-Gurez.

The fest aims at providing a robust platform to launch various tourism related activities in Gurez and aims at providing multiple opportunities of self employment to the youth through various avenues of tourism thereby making a huge impact on the socio-economic development of the area.

The participants holding banners and placards raised slogans of “GUREZ SAJ RAHA HAI, JASHN-E-GUREZ KE LIYE and “GO GREEN, GO GUREZ” while cleaning the surroundings.

The people of Gurez are in high hopes that their voices would be heard and necessary actions would be taken towards developing the tourism infrastructure in Gurez.
