Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said he has spoken to External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar regarding the evolving situation in Iran and sought assurances for the safety of students and other residents from Jammu and Kashmir currently there.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC said that the External Affairs Minister shared his assessment of the ground situation and briefed him about the plans being worked out by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Omar Abdullah expressed gratitude to the External Affairs Minister for assuring that all necessary steps will be taken to safeguard the interests and lives of students and other people from Jammu and Kashmir who are presently in Iran.

He said the government remains concerned about the wellbeing of people from the Union Territory abroad and is closely monitoring the situation—(KNC).
