After MC Baramulla employees was caught on video harassing and toppling food and vegetables of street vendors in Baramulla, the congress spokesperson Sheikh Aamir said that this brazen act of violence on cart vendors is unjustified and no sane person can admire it.
“The business community, cart vendors have already faced a lot during the pandemic and destroying, toppling their business, eatables is totally against the law. They should have been warned, fined and brought to justice through proper channel,” Aamir said.
He said that the cart vendors must be paid for the losses they suffered by the action of MC Baramulla employees.
Earlier the Municipal Council Baramulla employees today took action against the road side vendors and we’re caught on video harassing and toppling the carts near Azadgunj bridge in Baramulla.
The employees were seen destroying and toppling the eatables from the carts, an act that people in the market termed as brazen act of injustice.
The locals alleged that the MC Baramulla employees instead of removing encroachment from footpaths, outside shops and in the main market, took action against few selected cart vendors near Azadgunj bridge.
The locals alleged that the MC Baramulla employees are hand in gloves with shopkeepers and cart vendors in the market and recieve ‘Hafta’ from them while as cart vendors near Azadgunj bridge don’t pay any bribe.
Meanwhile Chairman MC Baramulla Touseef Raina said that the department had time and again requested the cart vendors not to block the road and cause problems for the people.
He however said that destroying of eatables isn’t a good step and assured action against the employees.
