SRINAGAR, MAY 24 :

Amid pandemic, the government on Monday said that the cooking charges of Mid-Day Meals (MDM) will be directly transferred into the bank accounts of eligible students via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Administrative Secretary to the government for School Education Department told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the dry ration of MDM is already being given to the registered eligible students.

He said that the cooking charges will also be given to the students via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) soon.

“As of now, the matter of funds pertaining to the cooking charges is yet to be settled but very soon the School Education Department will transfer the charges to students via DBT,” Singh said.

He said that the DBT process may take a little time, but the administration has decided to transfer the charges directly into the bank accounts of the students.

Singh said that the move was taken in view of the restrictions imposed by the government in view of COVID-19 threat and considering the orders of social distancing.

“In current situation, it is not possible to distribute the currency note that is why we have asked all concerned officers to submit the bank account details of those students availing MDM facility so that we can transfer the feasible amount to them once the matter of funds is sorted,” Singh said.

Pertinently, the government last year said that the School Education Department was providing MDM to nearly five lakh eligible kids—(KNO)
