The Bella Salamabad Cricket Ground in Boniyar Tehsil, Baramulla District, witnessed a remarkable month-long cricket extravaganza as the Indian Army unit stationed in the region successfully concluded the Pir Panjal Premier League on Saturday, 22nd July 2023.
The highly anticipated tournament saw a spirited participation of 64 teams, consisting of 960 enthusiastic young players from Uri, Boniyar, and Baramulla. For 24 days, the cricket ground resonated with the passion and dedication of the participants, as thrilling matches unfolded daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The Pir Panjal Premier League achieved a new milestone by attracting the highest number of teams ever seen from Boniyar Tehsil, becoming a resounding success in fostering sportsmanship and unity within the local community.
The Finals, held on July 22, 2023, witnessed an exhilarating clash between USCC Chandanwari and BSCC Boniyar, the two deserving finalist teams. The esteemed presence of Hon’ble Shri Ali Mohd Magrey, Retd Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Maj Gen Rajesh Sethi, SM, VSM, GOC Dagger Division, served as the chief host for the event, adding to the grandeur of the finale.
Beyond the boundaries of cricket, the Pir Panjal Premier League aimed to inspire a healthier lifestyle and discourage drug addiction within the community. In a fitting tribute to the exceptional talent and dedication displayed by the teams, the winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 15,000, while the runners-up received Rs 10,000. The Player of the Tournament was also honored with a reward of Rs 3,000, acknowledging their outstanding performance throughout the league.
