Baramulla: In a bid to encourage the spirit of freedom and empowerment Indian Army organized first of its kind Women’s Cycle Rally from Baramulla to Kaman Aman Setu Uri in which 140 women from across the country participated on Sunday.
Draped in colorful light green sports uniforms the women cyclists pedaled about 65 Kilometers in serene locations of Baramulla and reach Kaman Aman Setu in Uri near Line of Control. The rally was also aimed at spreading a message of peace, oneness, unity, integrity and women empowerment by making cyclists from across the length and breadth of the country to interact with each other besides exchange their ideas with sports lovers’ women of Kashmir who also took part in the cycling expedition.
Model and actor Milind Soman who was flanked by his wife Ankita Konwar, the fitness icons of the country flagged off the rally and among the participants Anupama Bhave was the oldest who at 75 years impressed everyone with her fitness and enthusiasm.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the culmination of the rally at Uri, GOC Chinar Corps Lt Gen DP Pandey said that women play vital role in every society .
He said that a society can only be as progressive as its women and same is true for Kashmir where, women have played a key role in enriching the society. He exhorted young girls to take up sports for an active and healthy life.
“Indian Army has been consciously working towards women empowerment in Kashmir through various sporting events. The Army will continue engaging the youth and provide requisite sporting platforms for them to achieve their potential,” he added.
Model and actor from bollywood Milind Soman said that cycling with women and locals was wonderful experience and more such events should be organized in future.
The cycling women were all praise to women , girls and children who cheered up and gave thumbs to the participating women cyclists.
