Massive fire in Noorbagh Baramulla leaves 30 families homeless

Baramullla: While massive devastating fire destroyed 15 residential houses and rendered 30families homeless in a congested locality of Sheikh Colony at Noorbagh, dreams of to be bride and a groom were shattered as they lost everything kept stocked for their marriages.

Family of Danish, who was scheduled to get married on Friday, said that they were preparing for dinner in on Saturday evening when all of sudden screams from nearby houses alerted them. As they ventured out they found the neighbors house caught in huge flames.

“In a jiffy massive fire flames engulfed our house too. We had everything ready for marriage but devastating fire turned our wedding into mourning. We lost everything and dreams of our bride were shattered,” said Bikram Sheikh Father of would be bride Danish.   

Another victim family of Tariq Ahmad Shiekh whose daughter was scheduled to get married in next month after Eid also lost everything besides jewelry and clothes in the massive fire.  

“My daughter Fiza’s all wedding jewelry and clothes were reduced to ashes. She was scheduled to get married in next month after Eid.We lost everything besides a cash of one Lakh,” said Tariq Ahmad Sheikh.

All 30 families are putting up now in a makeshift tents where locals and civil administration provide them food, fruits and other essential commodities. The entire locality belong the the already under privileged community of sweepers who are mostly working in Municipal Council Baramulla as scavengers.      

Youth  Sheikh Aamir visited the sweeper colony at Noorbagh distributed relief items and eatables like clothes, blankets, biscuits, juice and water bottles among the fire victims.

Aamir requested the district administration to take immediate steps for the rehabilitation of fire victims and also appealed the people of town to come forward in helping this poor community of Baramulla.

“This community is cleaning and keeping our surroundings neat and clean so we must take immediate and proper steps to address their social , political and economic concerns. They are part of our society and we need to take care of them in this hour of grief,” Aamir added.

He also thanked the youth of Baramulla who without caring about their lives were instrumental in controlling the massive fire that engulfed the sheikh mohalla of Noorbagh Baramulla the previous night.

Meanwhile, on the directions of Lieutenant Governor, Advisor to LG Baseer Ahmad Khan accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Bhupinder Kumar and other senior officers paid a visit to Noorbagh Baramulla where he met the fire victims whose residential houses were completely demaged in a massive fire incident that happened last night.

In the devastating fire incident which broke out on the intervening  night of 0th and 11th June, 15 residential houses belonging 30 families comprising of 160 souls, have been completely damaged in the said colony.

When afternoon rains and stormy winds hit various parts of Baramulla, the affected families cruse their fate and screamed in mourning as they were in makeshift tents which got drenched due to rains.

On the occasion, the Advisor took the first hand appraisal of the situation during which the fire victims appraised the advisor about their condition besides highlighting their issues and demands. The advisor gave a patient hearing and assured that every kind of possible support shall be provided for their immediate rehabilitation.

Earlier, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P K Pole accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Bhupinder Kumar, SSP Rayees Ahmad Bhat,ADC Mir Ahsan and other concerned functionaries visited to Noorbagh, Khanpora of Baramulla district where he met with the fire victims whose residential houses were completely demaged in a massive fire incident that happened last night.

On the occasion, Divisional Commissioner took the first hand appraisal of the situation during which the fire victims appraised the advisor about their condition besides extending their issues and demands. He gave a patient hearing and assured that every kind of possible support shall be provided for their immediate rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, P K Pole directed the Deputy Commissioner to conduct a proper assessment of the demage so that the victims are rehablitated under different welfare programmes sponsored by the administration. He also directed to provide essential items as an immediate relief and take appropriate measures for their time being shelter.
