Baramulla, April 12: Tensions at Delhi Public School (DPS) Baramulla eased on Sunday after the Parents’ Association mounted strong pressure over alleged controversial remarks by the Principal, prompting an apology and an assurance from the school management that she will not continue.
Addressing a press conference here, members of the DPS Parents’ Association, led by President Qazi Fayaz and Women’s Wing President Asifa Ara, strongly condemned any attempt to disturb communal harmony within or outside the school. They said the reported remarks had deeply hurt the sentiments of students and parents, terming them “unacceptable.”
Emphasising that the institution belongs to the community, the Association asserted that parents are equal stakeholders and have a collective responsibility to safeguard its ethos. “Our children study here, and it is our duty to ensure a peaceful and respectful environment,” the members said.
The Association reiterated its commitment to unity, inclusivity, and mutual respect, urging all stakeholders to act responsibly and refrain from spreading misinformation or discord.
Referring to the tense situation following the incident, the members appreciated the timely intervention of the district administration, police, and the School Education Department in maintaining law and order. They also expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla for extending full support to the parents’ body.
The Association revealed that during a meeting held at the ADC Office Baramulla on April 11, attended by officials and the school Chairman, a written agreement was reached. As per the agreement, the Principal has apologised to the students, while the Chairman assured that she will not continue at the school.
Welcoming the decision, the members said it reflects respect for the sentiments of students and parents and helps restore confidence among stakeholders.
The Association also appealed to students to resume classes and maintain peace, assuring that it will continue to safeguard their interests.
Reaffirming its stand on social harmony, the Parents’ Association stressed the importance of respecting all religions, stating that any remarks hurting religious sentiments are condemnable and must be avoided to preserve harmony in society.
