Cause of explosion still under investigation, say officials

New Delhi, Nov 10 :

The death toll in the explosion near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station has risen sharply, with hospital authorities confirming multiple fatalities and critical injuries late Monday evening.

As per news agency KNC, the Delhi Fire Department said a call was received soon after the blast, following which seven fire tenders were dispatched to douse the flames after a car caught fire and the blaze spread to several nearby vehicles.

A team from the Delhi Police Special Cell is on the spot to probe the nature and source of the explosion.

Meanwhile, qouting Medical Superintendent of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital news wire ANI reported that, fifteen people were brought to the hospital, of whom eight had succumbed before arrival, while three remain critically injured. One person is reported to be in stable condition, he added.

Officials said the exact cause of the blast is still being ascertained, and forensic teams are examining the site.
