BANDIPORA, JUNE,26 :

Few hours after his sister drowned to death saving him, a 21 year old youth from Bandipora has succumbed at a hospital in Srinagar.

The tragedy unfolded in Bandipora’s Sumbal area when the 21 year old Nazakat Ali drowned in Jhelum river on Sunday afternoon.

Locals told The news agency that as soon as the news of his drowning spread, his sister rushed to the water body and jumped inside the river to save her brother, however, she could not swim back.

Within few moments, teams of Jammu Kashmir police and SDRF reached the spot to save the duo.

Within few minutes, Nuzhat Afzal (18), the dead body of the sister was rescued from the river and her brother was rescued alive and referred to the hospital for treatment.

Grief hit the family over the death of Nuzhat while their kin was battling for life at the SKIMS in Srinagar.

In the wee hours of Monday, Nazakat lost his battle for survival and breathed his last at the hospital.
