Five firemen injured as on way fire engine turns turtle due to slipper road

Kreeri:  A fierce inferno destroyed a residential house and a copper artisan workshop late last night in Kreeri village of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district resulting into huge losses to coppersmith family.

Locals said that fire flames erupted from upper story of residential house of  Manzoor Ahmad Ahanger, son of Mohammad Akbar of Durhama Wagoora, quickly engulfed his entire house and coppersmith workshop creating intricate copper utensils.

Eyewitnesses recount the harrowing scene as flames devoured the property, reducing valuable copper artifacts and household goods worth lakhs of rupees to smoldering debris.

“The fire destroyed everything in the house and consumed valuable copper utensils and property goods worth lakhs of rupees, reducing them to ashes,” said Bashir Ahmad another local.

 Swift response from the Baramulla Police and Fire & Emergency Services prevented further escalation of the blaze, although the residential structure sustained extensive damage.

Tragically, a fire engine on Tuesday turned turtle while it was on its way to douse flames broken out in a residential house in Kreeri Wagoora area..

An official said that an information was received at F&ES Station in Kreeri on intervening Monday and Tuesday night, regarding outbreak of an fire in residential house of one Manzoor Ahmad in Durhama Wagoora.

Responding to the call, the station dispatched a fire engine to the site. “However, due to slippery conditions, the vehicle overturned upon reaching Kreeri, injuring five individuals onboard.”

“The injured include an LFM (Leading Fireman), three firefighters, and the driver and have been identified as Abdul Hamid Lone (LFM), Mohammad Abdullah (SgCt), Mohammad Ashraf (Mechanical Driver), Showkat Ahmad (Fireman), and Azhar Din (Fireman),” official said.

Confirming the incident, an F&ES Department official said that two separate fire engines were dispatched to the site to control the fire.All injured F&ES personnel are out of danger, and the fire was successfully contained at the site with minimal damage.

Authorities have launched investigations into the cause of the fire, with preliminary inquiries focusing on potential electrical faults or other hazards within the residence. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to assess the extent of the damage and provide support to the affected family as they grapple with the aftermath of the tragedy.
