Baramulla, 25 June:

The forest department has completely failed to tackle the cutting of green trees in several areas of North Kashmir and has raised its hand in front of smugglers.

In a fresh incident, police have seized 30 logs of green trees from the tin shed at Chahla Mode Boniyar. According to reports, these illegal timber logs belong to BDC Boniyar Bilal Aashiq Mir.

In this regard, case number 44/2023 under section 379 IPC of the Forest Act has been registered and legal proceedings were initiated against the accused.

On the other hand, people alleged that forest officials are in hand in glove with timber smugglers

According to the local people, Block Officer Nowshera and Range Officer Boniyar were already informed about this timber worth lakhs of rupees, but they deliberately did not take any action, after which the local people informed the police and the police Immediately moved and raided the place.

Meanwhile, people request authority to take strong actions and make top officials of the forest department accountable and answerable.
