Sheeri, Baramulla: In a heart-wrenching incident that has left the Sheeri village in shock, Hadiya Shafi, a Class 3th student at Government Middle School Sheeri Payeen, was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident near Sheeri main market on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway. The incident occurred on Saturday late evening, and the driver responsible fled the scene, leaving the young girl battling for her life.

Hadiya, the daughter of Mohammad Shafi Sheikh resident of Sheeri, was reportedly hit by an unidentified vehicle while she was near the market. Eyewitnesses said the driver did not stop to help the injured child and instead took advantage of the darkness to escape. Locals rushed Hadiya to Sheeri Hospital, where she was given initial treatment before being referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla due to the severity of her injuries.

Doctors at GMC Baramulla diagnosed her with critical head and mouth injuries, including multiple broken teeth. Given the extent of her injuries, she was subsequently referred to SKIMS Soura, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition remains critical, and the family is pleading for prayers and support from the community.

Hadiya’s family has described the incident as a clear case of a hit-and-run. “The driver not only hit our daughter but also left her to suffer. He fled the scene without any remorse. We demand justice for Hadiya,” said a distraught family member Bilal Ahmad.

The Sheeri Police have registered an FIR No 08 of 2025 and launched a thorough investigation into the incident. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and piecing together evidence to identify the vehicle and the driver involved. Police have also appealed to the public for cooperation in identifying the culprit.

“We are examining all possible leads, including CCTV footage, and urge anyone with information about the vehicle or the driver to come forward. Such acts of negligence and cowardice will not be tolerated,” said a police official.

The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who are demanding stricter enforcement of traffic laws and better road safety measures.

As Hadiya fights for her life at SKIMS Soura, the locals has come together to pray for her recovery. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of reckless driving and the urgent need for accountability on the roads.

The police have assured that no stone will be left unturned in bringing the culprit to justice. Meanwhile, the family and the community await answers and hope for Hadiya’s swift recovery.
