Srinagar, Aug 13 :
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V. K. Birdi, on Wednesday said that full dress rehearsals for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations were conducted smoothly in all districts of the Valley.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Birdi, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, said, “Today, parades were held in every district as part of the full dress rehearsal for the August 15 functions. All contingents participated, and the rehearsals went off successfully.”
He added that along with the ceremonial drills, security preparedness exercises were also carried out. “Security rehearsals were conducted in every district, and those too concluded successfully,” he noted.
On arrangements for the main function in Srinagar, Birdi said, “For the city’s central event, where the VVIP salutes will be taken, Srinagar Police has put in place multi-layered security. Contingents from J&K Police and Central Armed Police Forces will be part of the deployment.”
Responding to a query about the recent infiltration attempt in Uri, Birdi said it was linked to an ongoing counter-insurgency operation and further details would be shared after a full review.
He urged people to join the celebrations in large numbers. “We have ensured smooth entry for the public. Residents should participate wholeheartedly and make the programme a success,” he said.
On the Akhal encounter in Kulgam, Birdi said, “The operation is now in its final stage. Any fresh developments will be shared with the media.” (KNC)
