Ganderbal, Dec 17 :

Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ganderbal have recovering cocaine worth over Rs 10 crore in the international illicit market and arrested two alleged drug peddlers.

Police said the action followed special naka checking operations conducted on December 8, during which Mohammad Irfan Bhat of Kharbagh Wakura was apprehended. An FIR under relevant sections of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Ganderbal and a detailed investigation was launched.

Given the seriousness of the case, a special investigation team was constituted to trace forward and backward linkages of the drug network. Subsequent searches at multiple locations in Ganderbal and Srinagar led to the detention of another alleged peddler, Maqsood Hussain Khan of Hazratbal.

During a search of his rented accommodation at Gooripora, Sanat Nagar, police recovered around one kilogram of cocaine-like substance. A vehicle, mobile phones and other electronic devices were also seized.

Police said further investigation is underway to identify the source and wider supply chain, including possible inter-state or international links. More arrests and recoveries are expected.

Ganderbal Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and urged locals to share information to help curb the drug menace. [KNT]
