Today department of ENT, associated hospital Government medical college baramulla performed two cochlear implant surgeries . Both these patients were 4 yrs old children one from district kupwara another from district Baramula who where congenitaly deaf since birth, due to their hearing impearment they where not able to develop speech.
Both of these surgeries where done free of cost and cochlear implants worth about 6 lakhs each where also provided to them free of cost under ADIP scheme of government of india. Porf.Dr Kapil sikka and Dr Arvind kairo from AIIMS new delhi where present as mentor surgeons for these surgeries.they were also accompanied by team of expert audiologists from chandigarh and delhi. Dr Zafarullah Beigh assistant professor ENT was the surgeon in both the cases under the mentorship of Surgeons from AIIMS Delhi. During the surgery anesthesia was provided by team of anesthesia department government GMC Baramulla headed by prof Basharat , Dr waseem, Dr Tahleel and other paramedical staff.prof Dr Nazir Khan hod ENT congratulated the whole team.This free cochlear implant surgery programe is being implemented by department of ENT , GMC Baramulla under the guidence of principal GMC prof Ruby Rishi. Medical superintendet GMC Baramulla. Dr paraviaz massoodi provided all the logistic required arrangements for these surgeries in the hospital.
Later on surgical team was felicitated by principal GMC Baramulla in presence of all hods and medical superintendent GMC BARAMULLA
