The Trade Federation Sopore elections Saturday saw a massive turnout of voters with Haji Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie elected as new president.
Out of total 3365 votes, 2325 votes were polled in which Haji Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie got 1028 votes, Rayees Ahmad Kaloo 918 and Zaffar Iqbal Bhat 369 votes.
As per the official data available with Kashmir Despatch, Haji Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie won by 110 votes.
The election saw a massive participation of traders with candidates campaigning for door to door support. The electoral process started last week, hoardings were displayed in the market and rallies were taken out in support of the candidate.
“It was no less than a legislative assembly election. From hoardings, door to door campaigning and rallies, the trade elections brought a festive season to Sopore,” a trader in Sopore said.
The election saw new and young faces like Rayees Kaloo besides big stalwarts like Haji Ashraf.
