The J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, has issued a dress code restriction, stating that only advocates are permitted to wear a white shirt, black pants and black coat within the High Court Complex, Jammu.

As per a statement issued by Anshu Mahajan, Joint Secretary, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a particular dress code has been reserved exclusively for lawyers as a mark of professional identity and dignity within the legal fraternity.

The notice signed by Anshu Mahajan, Joint Secretary, specifies that no clerk, litigant, member of the general public or any other individual is allowed to wear this attire during their visit to the court premises.

The association has warned that anyone found violating this directive will be treated as a tout and appropriate action including the filing of formal complaints will be initiated against such individuals.

Additionally, the notice requests the learned advocates to ensure that their interns wear a black necktie along with proper uniform and refrain from wearing a band in the court premises until their enrolment as advocates.

The directive has been communicated to the Registrar Judicial, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu, the Learned Principal District & Sessions Judge, Jammu, the Dy SP Security, High Court Complex, Jammu, and the Incharge Police Post, District Court Complex, Jammu, for necessary action and compliance—(KNO)
