Issues advisory for Covid-19 home testing

SRINAGAR, 19 MAY :

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has issued an advisory for Covid-19 home testing on Wednesday, allowing individuals to test themselves at home, without the intervention of a medical professional.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the ICMR has approved a testing kit named CoviSelf for home testing. This rapid antigen testing would only involve a nasal swab.

As per the advisory issued by the ICMR, home testing by RAT is advised only among symptomatic individuals and immediate contacts of laboratory confirmed positive cases and indiscriminate testing has not been advised.

The advisory states that home testing should be conducted as per the procedure described by the manufacturer in the user manual (pictorial and video link of the user manual is provided below against the name of the approved test kit.

About the usage of the Kit, the kit comes in a pouch containing a nasal swab and a pre-filled extraction tube and one test card.

As per the advisory, for the test, the user will have to download the “Mylab App” on their mobile phones, where the credentials have to be filled—(KNO)
