Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday expressed strong disapproval of the arrests related to the Hazratbal controversy, describing the detentions as avoidable.
Talking to reporters in Awantipora, CM Omar as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC termed the Hazratbal incident “regrettable” and questioned the decision to place a plaque bearing the national emblem inside the sacred shrine.
“The person responsible for the initial error has not apologized, and I was never given a satisfactory explanation for this action,” he said.
Reflecting on the shrine’s legacy, Omar pointed out that it was inaugurated by his grandfather and former J&K Prime Minister Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, who had never installed any stone inside. “Putting up the plaque inside Hazratbal was clearly not the right move,” he said.
On the arrest of Doda MLA Mehraj Malik, the Chief Minister stated that he would first obtain full details before commenting further. (KNC)
