IPS officer Basant Rath has submitted his resignation letter to chief secretary of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir wishing resignation or voluntary retirement from his services.

In his letter, a copy of which lies with SNS Kashmir , to chief secretary Jammu and Kashmir, Rath has wished to participate electoral process.

He has urged the CS to consider the letter as his request for resignation or voluntary retirement from his services.

“I wish to resign from the Indian Police Service in order to be able to participate in electoral politics. Please consider this letter as my request for resignation/voluntary retirement and process it accordingly. I’ll be grateful,” reads the letter.

In his tweet, Basant said,” If l ever join a political party, it WILL be BJP.If I ever contest an election, it WILL be fromKashmir.If l ever join politics, it WILL be before March6, 2024.”
