Police raid house in Kangan, recover illicit timber
GANDERBAL, MAY 22 :
Locals handed over three employees of Forest Department including a Forester to police when they were transporting illicit timber in a vehicle to sell it to their customer.
These employees were caught by locals at Arhama village of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on late Friday night.
Locals told news agency Kashmir News Trust that they spotted an Alto car (JK16A /6021) in Arhama village transporting illicit timber. Locals said the trio in the vehicle including Forester Reyaz Ahmed and two casual labourers failed to come up with satisfactory reply when questioned by a local.
Locals subsequently seized the vehicle and apprehended the trio. Police was informed that arrested them and seized the vehicle.
Divisional Forest Officer Farooq Ahmed was not available for comments. He didn’t respond to repeated phone calls.
A formal case in this regard has been registered at police station Ganderbal and investigation taken up.
Meanwhile, Police raided the house of a man in Central Kashmir’s Kangan village and recovered illicit timber.
The raid was conducted by a police party from Kangan under the supervision of DSP Yasir Qadri. A police official told news agency Kashmir News Trust that after receiving information, a police team raided the house of Abid Hussain Bijard at Baba Nagri Wangath area of Central Kashmir’s Kangan.
The police team seized over 60 square feet.
The owner of the house has been arrested and a case registered against him. (KNT)
