SRINAGAR, AUGUST 14

The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Union Territories has adopted regulations of Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for the State of Goa and Union Territories.

In a notification issued on August 4, a copy of which is in possession of news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Union Power Ministry has notified adoption of various regulations of JERC for the State of Goa and UTs by JERC for UT of J&K and UT of Ladakh.

“These Regulations may be called JERC for UT of J&K and UT of Ladakh (Adoption of various Regulations of JERC for the state of Goa and UTs) Regulations, 2021,” read the notification.

The JERC for J&K and Ladakh UTs was constituted on June 18, 2020 after the enactment of The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act-2019 and division of the erstwhile state of J&K into two Union Territories.

The erstwhile State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) ceased to exist from October 31,2019 as the law under which it was set-up was repealed by the Parliament. With repealing of The Jammu and Kashmir Electricity Act-2010, The Electricity Act-2003 became applicable to both the UTs.

Documents accessed by the KNO lay bare that JERC for J&K and Ladakh UTs decided to adopt regulations of JERC for Goa and UTs till the time the panel notifies its own regulations after following due process.

In its meetings held on February 10 and 16, the Commission decided to invite objections/ comments for adoption of regulations of the JERC for the State of Goa and UTs.

Interestingly, the quasi-judicial body did not receive any suggestions/ objections after it sought feedback through a public notice on March 5

On March 31, the panel headed by former bureaucrat LD Jha approved adoption of regulations of JERC for the State of Goa and Union Territories—(KNO)
