” The future and health of our students cannot be compromised”: Qayoom Wani
Srinagar, November, 5 2024/
As the academic calendar in Jammu and Kashmir shifts back to November, students eagerly await the beginning of a new session. However, there remains a pressing issue that threatens the smooth commencement of studies, the timely and complete distribution of free textbooks to students.
Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF), Abdul Qayoom Wani, has expressed his concern over the delay in the provision of textbooks, a vital resource for every student.
“Education is the foundation of our society. It is critical that students are given the necessary materials to engage in learning from the start of the academic year,” Wani stated.
The 2024 academic session saw numerous students waiting for months without the required textbooks, impacting both their learning and academic progress. This is not an issue that can continue unchecked. Therefore, Wani strongly urges the government to ensure that free textbooks are provided in full to every student before the new session begins.
“It is essential for the government to hold the relevant offices accountable to prevent future delays,” Wani added. “Departments responsible for the distribution must be given clear deadlines, and those failing to meet them should be held accountable with appropriate disciplinary measures. The future of our students cannot be compromised.”
Wani’s call to action is clear that timely preparation and distribution of textbooks are necessary to prevent disruption in the academic journey of students. He calls on the government to prioritize this issue and act swiftly to ensure that every student receives textbooks by the start of the academic session .wani appealed to the education minister and secretary education to consider examination upto 9th class in the last week of November instead of December keeing in view the chilly cold which will adversely effect the health of small kids .
The JKCSF chairman hopes that the government will heed this appeal and work towards strengthening the educational infrastructure of Jammu and Kashmir by ensuring that such delays do not persist.
