Stagnation of degrees can be a causal agent leading to suicides: Qayoom Wani

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum has urged the Govt in general and the stakeholders of Kashmir University in particular to revive the examination system in Jand K keeping in view the prolonged duration of courses that waste the time and minimize career opportunities of its aspirants.
In a statement issued here Chairman JKCSF Abdul Qayoom Wani said that they have inputs from the candidates seeking various UG to PG courses and research work from Kashmir university that the normal tenure of academic as well as professional courses has been always getting prolonged due to various factors especially the incompatible semister system of exams resulting in the career loss of its pass outs by virtue of placements in recruitments and competent exams at various levels.
Wani said after analysing the inputs of the students JKCSF decided to raise the issue with the stakeholders to apprise them about the gravity of the issues related with the career, research and the recruitment of the students enrolled in University of Kashmir and to find the solution to the genuine concerns of the UG, graduate and PG students to safeguard their career.
Wani said that it can not be ruled out that prolonging and stagnation of degrees for years can be one of the causal agents of mental trauma leading to suicides in Jand K.
Wani said, it was a matter of proud that Kashmir University has faculty of worth and people of dexterity in every department but it was the system of exams that has earned a bad name for the varsity.
JKCSF vehemently demands for a policy change that ensures a brilliant and efficient outcome of the teaching efforts by changing the system of exams from semsters to annual system that suits JK geographically keeping the harsh winter in mind.
