SRINAGAR, MARCH 31:

Notwithstanding the unabbated bulldozer mining of Nallah Ferozpora at the cost of drinking water and irrigation to parts of north Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum has expressed concern over the increasing grim issue as the pady season is approaching.
A statment issued here said , that a meeting of JKCSF Chaired by Abdul Qayoom Wani was held here after the videos of women and children appeared on social media who desperately came on roads with utensils containing polluted murky waters with worms in it.
Quoting the media reports, JKCSF said that bulldozer mining of Nallah Ferozpora has devastated this lone water body in this north kashmir area which is the lone source of drinking water and irrigation in the area.
” Due to bulldozer mining of nallah near Rarem Tangmarg, it has affected the irrigation of scores of villages and some water supply schemes mainly the Gonipora Water Supply Scheme. We wonder how come the departments of Irrigation and the department of PHE granted NOC to the miners without considering the priority public amenities first who (public) pay huge fee to both departments PHE as well as Irrigation.” Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani questioned.
There has been impure and murky water running into the houses of people through PHE tapes with worms and mud pouring into their kitchens and washrooms which is signalling a health hazard. School children are reluctant to drink water for its all polluted and full of worms.”
Said Wani
JKCSF has resolved in its meeting that uncontrolled buldozer mining of nallah Ferozpora is a grave issue to affect the irrigation of parts of north Kashmir as the level of Nallah descends to the level of irrigation canals which will result in drought and the mud and sand of continued murky water will settle into the seedling-beds of paddy and hamper the paddy seedling growth. The murky polluted water has already affected the apple orchards as orchardists travel long distances to reach to springs to fill clean water into water tanks for fungicide sprays to safeguard the orchards.
JKCSF has appealed the LG administration to look into this grave concern and ensure safeguarding of Nallah Ferozpora, the lone source of drinking water and irrigation in north kashmir.
