In a significant development, noted journalist Umar Rashid from Kanispora, Baramulla, has filed a Right to Information (RTI) application against the District Information Officer (DIO) in Baramulla. Rashid’s RTI seeks to uncover alleged instances of marginalization, discrimination, and favoritism within the district’s information department.
The RTI application, addressed to the Public Information Officer of the District Information Officer in Baramulla, highlights four key areas of concern. Firstly, Rashid has requested information regarding the monetization of the Facebook page titled “DC BARAMULLA.” He seeks details on the monetization account number, monetization details, and the amount accumulated through online advertisements.
Additionally, he has inquired whether any funds have been withdrawn from this account and, if not, the total accumulated amount.
Secondly, Rashid has sought information about the Whatsapp group maintained by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR). Specifically, he wants the names and qualifications of every member, including journalists, stringers, cameramen, and video editors, along with details of the agencies or media groups they are associated with.
The journalist’s third request focuses on obtaining details about vehicles used by the Information Department, including any fuel charges incurred. This information is essential to assess the department’s expenses related to transportation and associated costs.
Lastly, Rashid seeks clarification on whether any media funds have been allocated and utilized for seminars, tours, or cultural programs. He has requested a detailed account of the amount spent on such events to date.
Umar Rashid, in his RTI application, has expressed concerns about the potential marginalization, discrimination, and favoritism within the Information Department. By filing this request, he aims to shed light on the transparency and fairness of the department’s operations.
As per the RTI Act of 2005, the Public Information Officer is obligated to respond to Rashid’s queries within a stipulated timeframe. This includes providing the requested information or citing valid reasons for denial, as per the provisions of the act.
