Karnah, January 5 :

The residents of Karnah on Wednesday remembered the victims of an avalanche that struck at Sadhna Top on this day in 2018, killing at least 11 people.

The residents told Kashmir News Service (KNS), that 11 persons including a toddler had lost their lives after an avalanche struck at Sadhna Top when two vehicles came under the avalanche on January 05, 2018.

They said that all the victims were remembered today, while stating that this was not the only incident that had happened at Sadhna Top, as snow avalanches have been consuming lives at this deadly pass almost every winter.

They said that number of accidents have taken place as well on this pass, while the residents have been demanding construct of a tunnel at Sadhna Top.

Notably, union minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari on November 05 made an announcement that a tunnel will be constructed at Sadhna top at the cost Rs 1300 Crore, thereby, giving a new lease of life for the residents of this remote border village. (KNS)
