People allege negligence of Beacon authorities for leaving the slide prone area without safety walls

Uri, July 13: The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road was blocked on Tuesday following a landslide triggered by incessant rains in Uri sector of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A massive landslide hit the road near Laghama area in Uri, blocking traffic as people allege that Beacon authorities put the area unattended without building safety walls.

” After rains and snowfall, this area is prone to slides. We have been appealing to Beacon authorities to fix the problem forever but they haven failed to bild safety walls,” said a driver Abdul Rashid.

An official that men and machinery were pressed into service and made the road functional for light motor vehicles. He said that road is still blocked for the heavy vehicles.

The official said that Border Roads Organization (BRO) is on job to clear the road.

The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad Road had been blocked several times in past due to massive landslides which also prompted the authorities to shift dozens of families living close to the Line of Control to safer places.

The official from BRO said that many heavy motor vehicles are stranded while efforts are on to restore the traffic. 

Later, after several hours the traffic was restored on the highway, he added.

Meanwhile, half dozen roads of R&B are closed besides many water supply schemes gotdamaged in Sub Division Uri due to heavy rains and slides.
