Leh, Oct 9 :

The District Magistrate of Leh, Romil Singh Donk, has issued an order prohibiting the circulation of fake news, rumours, and misinformation on social media platforms within the district.

The move comes in view of recent instances where unverified information was spreading online, potentially disturbing law and order.

As per an order issued by diatrict admin Leh, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, Under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, the order directs all social media users to refrain from sharing, forwarding, or posting unverified content. Group administrators on platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, Telegram, and YouTube have been instructed to monitor their groups, delete misleading content, and enable “Admin Only” controls where applicable.

The order warns that individuals found violating the directive will face strict legal action under relevant provisions. It will remain in force for two months from October 9, 2025, or until further notice, whichever is earlier.

The administration emphasized that the order is issued in the interest of public safety and to maintain peace and tranquillity in Leh district. (KNC)
