A tragic incident unfolded in Safa Kadal, Haft Yarbal area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Sunday morning, as a man was brutally attacked with an unidentified object, resulting in critical injuries and ultimately claiming his life.
The victim, identified as Fayaz Ah Ganie, aged 37 and son of Wali Mohd Ganie, hailed from Haft Yarbal Safa Kadal.
An official told news agency— Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Ganie sustained severe injuries from the assailant’s weapon and was rushed to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention.
However, he was declared dead upon arrival.
Law enforcement authorities swiftly responded to the scene, initiating an investigation into the tragic incident. The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under scrutiny as authorities work to ascertain the motive and apprehend the perpetrator responsible for this act of violence.
Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident, and investigation has begun in this regard.
Police has issued a statement regarding the issue which reads,On 24/03/2024, during early morning hours an individual namely Fayaz Ahmad Ganie, (aged 32), son of Wali Mohammad Ganie resident of Hafta Yarbal Safakadal, (butcher by profession) was brought to SMHS Hospital by his family members in an injured condition. The attending doctors at the hospital pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Preliminary investigation reveals that an altercation took place near the victim’s residence in a slaughterhouse, between one butcher namely Irfan Ahmad Ganie and his uncle namely Nisar Ahmad Ganie. The deceased Fayaz Ahmad Ganie intervened in this altercation and during the ensuing scuffle Irfan Ahmad Ganie stabbed the victim leading to his death. Acting swiftly, police arrested the accused person Irfan Ahmad Ganie son of Mohd Shafi Ganie resident of Hafta Yarbal Safakadal (nephew of the victim) within hours after the incident.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 29/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Safakadal. The weapon of offence has been seized. Forensic analysis and medico-legal procedures are currently underway and further investigation is going on.`
