Journalists termed the move as an attempt to “skip questions and avoid accountability.”
Baramulla, Oct 14:
The media fraternity has expressed deep anguish over the action of the administration after journalists were not allowed to cover Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s function at Dak Banglow Baramulla.
According to the media persons present at the spot, the security personnel stationed at the gate informed them that they had “instructions from the Chief Minister” not to allow media entry. This sudden restriction came despite the fact that the Information Department had earlier invited journalists for the event’s coverage.
At the last moment, the main entry gate of Dak Banglow was closed for media representatives, leaving them unable to report on the proceedings inside.
Journalists termed the move as an attempt to “skip questions and avoid accountability.”
People from the area also expressed surprise, stating that media persons are allowed to cover Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s events smoothly, which indicates that the Chief Minister appears apprehensive about facing the media.
The media fraternity has urged the administration to ensure equal access and uphold the freedom of the press in all official functions.
