Case Registered, SIT Constituted: SSP Ganderbal

Ganderbal, Aug 17 :

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khalil Poswal on Sunday said that the body of a minor girl, aged around 14–15 years, was recovered on the Batsar–Sehpora road after she was allegedly kidnapped and killed by unknown attackers.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the case in detail, while her elder sister who managed to escape from the assailants is undergoing treatment in hospital in a state of shock.

Speaking to media persons, SSP Poswal, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, said, “We had received a report about the death of a minor girl. Police teams rushed to the spot and it came to light that some individuals had kidnapped her near her house. Her sister was also present at the time and she is now in hospital, deeply traumatized.”

“Later, after tracing, it was found that her body was lying on the Batsar–Sehpora road. Some evidence was also recovered. Accordingly, a case under Section 103 BNS (murder) has been registered and a SIT has been constituted for detailed investigation,” SSP Poswal said.

He added, “To ascertain who the culprits are, we have also called in teams from Srinagar. Our forensic experts are on the job, and with technical analysis of CCTV cameras, we are confident of working out the case. I urge people to maintain calm. A board of doctors has also been constituted to ensure a thorough investigation.”

SSP Khalil Poswal later visited the area and assured the bereaved family of justice. (KNC)
