Srinagar, November 30:

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Senior leader Muhammad Shafi Uri today expressed deep anguish over the massive fire that broke out in Boniyar market in Uri area on Monday evening.

Sharing in the grief of traders whose shops were engulfed in the raging flames even, Mohammad Shafi said the Fire and Emergency Services Department alongside locals of the area swung into action to bring the fire under control but the flames reportedly couldn’t be doused resulting in severe damage to the shops and the stockpiled merchandise inside the shops.

Demanding compensation for the fire victims, the senior party leader said, “These fire victims are marginal traders. Most of the shops and valuable merchandise, it is reported, wasn’t insured. Therefore it is imperative for the district and divisional administration to provide succour to them. I hope that the administration will depute revenue teams to the spot to assess the losses at an earliest so that the quantum of compensation is worked out and distributed without any delay. Meantime I impress upon the administration to provide victims all possible monetary support from SDRF and other central sponsored schemes so that they are able to overcome the impact of the losses incurred on them by the ravaging fire. I also pray for speedy revival of all the victim traders,” he said.

North Zone President Javed Ahmed Dar and District President Baramulla Dr Sajad Shafi Uri have also expressed anguish over the fateful incident. The duo sought effective compensation for the affected as well.
