Srinagar, Aug 15:

In a significant development, senior IPS officer Nalin Prabhat has been appointed as the next Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu & Kashmir.

An official order stated that Prabhat, a 1992-batch officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, has joined the AGMUT cadre on inter-cadre deputation and will immediately take over as the Special Director General (SDG) of Jammu & Kashmir Police.

According to news agency Kashmir Dot Com, Prabhat will serve in this capacity until September 30, 2024, after which he will assume the role of DGP following the retirement of the current DGP, R.R. Swain (AGMUT:1991), on the same date. Prabhat’s tenure as DGP is set to begin on October 1, 2024, and will continue until further orders.

The decision has been made with the approval of the competent authority. Prabhat’s appointment comes as a crucial leadership transition for the Jammu & Kashmir Police, ensuring continuity in the security framework of the region.

Nalin Prabhat was born in 1968 Thungri Villages of Manali. He completed his graduated in B.A (Honours) and M.A from St. Stephen’s College. (KDC)
