Baramulla: A day after news about ‘lack of sanitation and healthcare facilities’ was published, Medical Superintendent Associate Hospital GMC Baramulla called a meeting for ‘ Mega Cleanliness Drive of Hospital and Whole Camps’ and wrote to ‘Executive Officer Municipal Council Baramulla’ for deputation round 50 scavengers for the drives which indicates poor sanitation in the hospital is not only a grave concern for patients but for all visitors.

Interestingly, some little known so called ‘Baramulla Doctors Association” and few doctors who pose as administrators try to overshadow the sufferings of patients and attendants highlighted in the story by issuing a press note and a letter which tried to mingle mainstream media with social media and term the story as ‘misinformation’ and ‘an attempt to hampering the services of the medica and paramedics” which they themselves nullify by issuing letters to MCB.

A patient Zahida Rashid said, “ I was charged Rs 30 as parking charges, Rs 10 for ticket and attends charges Rs 5, where this entire money go if hospital authorities fail to upkeep a toilet and washroom in the hospital.”

“From last many months now, we are being told that toilet blocks are under maintenance. Our female patients suffer badly. Come evening, there is no senior doctor available in the hospital only few junior residents are kept to treat patients,” rued Ajaz Ahmad, another attendants.

The meeting notice bearing No: No.:- AH-GMC/Bla/2022/ 1287-91 dated 25-06-2022 copy of which lies with Kashmir Images reads, “In view of Mega Cleanliness Drive of Hospital and whole Campus in the coming week, Executive Sanitation Committee of this hospital are requested to attend a meeting on 28-06-2022 at 11:00 AM sharp, to discuss various important issues regarding the overall status of sanitation of the hospital. Sanitation Contractor and In-charge Sweepers are also directed to attend the said meeting. Matter be treated as most urgent.”

Following the meeting, a letter to Executive Officer MCB bearing no AH-GMC/Bla/2022/1292-97 dated 25-06-2033 copy of which also lies with Kashmir Images reads, “We again request your goodself to kindly depute atleast 50 personnel (Sanitary workers) from your department on 28-06-2022 to GMC Baramulla in view of Mega Cleanliness Drive of Hospital and whole Campus in the coming week.”

Many patients talking to SNS KASHMIR urged Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, Principal Secretary, Health & Medical Education, Manoj Kumar Drivadi , Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar for their personal intervention into the mismanagement in the hospital.

Meanwhile, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) feigned ignorance about any statement issued and termed ‘the associations issuing statements at the cost of patient care fake and disappointing.”

DAK believes in preamble of ‘patient first’ so mismanagement in any hospital due to which patients suffer can’t be shielded by DAK.
