New Delhi, Nov 27 :
The National Investigation Agency Wednesday requested the Delhi High Court to grant the Special NIA Court the authority to hear the terror funding case involving MP Engineer Rashid, instead of transferring it to an MP/MLA court.
During a hearing at the Patiala House Court, Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra, representing the NIA, informed the court that a letter would be sent to the Delhi High Court seeking the necessary designation. The court has scheduled the matter for hearing on December 6, with Luthra estimating a ten-day wait for the High Court’s response.
The NIA argued that transferring the case to an MP/MLA court would delay the trial, citing the agency’s powers under the NIA Act to handle UAPA cases.
Advocate Vikhyat Oberoi, representing Rashid, requested a formal notice on the interim bail plea, which the court kept pending until the next hearing.
Engineer Rashid, arrested in 2019 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, recently surrendered at Tihar Jail after his interim bail expired. (CNS)
