Srinagar, Feb 15 :

Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday said that JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, both allies of the BJP in the NDA government, have expressed their support for the contentious Waqf (Amendment) Bill.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar on the Union Budget 2025-26, Rijiju claimed that several Muslim MPs also back the bill. “Even Muslim MPs are okay with it, and they have privately conveyed their support to me,” he said.

Rijiju further stated that his ministry has received representations from the Muslim community regarding the bill. He emphasized that the proposed amendments would enhance transparency in Waqf properties and ultimately benefit the community.

Hailing the Union Budget, the minister highlighted that it offers significant benefits, particularly for artisans and farmers.

He also expressed optimism about Kashmir’s economic future, stating that the region is poised to become the most prosperous and sought-after tourist destination in India.

Responding to a question, Rijiju reiterated the Modi government’s commitment to zero tolerance against corruption. [KNT]
