The Jammu and Kashmir government has revealed that a total of 17,953 posts are lying vacant under the direct recruitment quota across various departments in the Union Territory.

According to the official figures tabled in the J&K Legislative Assembly in response to an unstarred question by Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, the government, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said 2,960 Gazetted and 14,993 Non-Gazetted posts presently vacant in different government departments.

The reply furnished by the General Administration Department (GAD), shows that the Health and Medical Education Department tops the list with 1,985 Gazetted and 5,300 Non-Gazetted vacancies.

It is followed by the Finance Department, which has 104 Gazetted and 1,457 Non-Gazetted posts lying vacant.

Other major departments with a significant number of vacancies include Power Development Department (61 Gazetted, 1,436 Non-Gazetted), Industries & Commerce (45 Gazetted, 1,130 Non-Gazetted), Jal Shakti (987 Non-Gazetted), and Public Works (R&B) (1,099 Non-Gazetted).

Departments such as Agriculture Production, Higher Education, Law, PD&MD, and Youth Services & Sports have also reported several unfilled positions.

The reply further mentioned that details regarding posts referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB), along with their current recruitment status, have also been compiled—(KNO)
