JAMMU, June 20:

The Jammu district administration has constituted a joint commission to demarcate a disputed patch of land in Bain Bajalta area following complaints of encroachment by an ex-MLC and irregularities in issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for petrol pumps.

An order issued by DC Jammu said that the land in question, under Khasra Number 474 in Bain Bajalta area in tehsil and district Jammu, has been recorded as Banjar Qadeem (uncultivable wasteland) in official revenue records.

It said the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Jammu, in a letter dated June 11, flagged multiple issues linked to this land, including issuance of NOCs for establishment of petrol pumps and distance certificates.

He requested the formation of a joint commission to clarify the land’s status, the order said.

Acting on the request, the Deputy Commissioner Jammu has appointed Additional District Development Commissioner Sher Singh as head of the commission with Anmol Rathore (AC-UT), Nayiem Iqbal (Tehsildar Jammu West), Ashok Kumar (Naib Tehsildar Rakh Bahu), Jagdish Singh (Naib Tehsildar Sidhra Bajalta), Satish Kumar (Naib Tehsildar Demarcation Division-I), Varinder Sharma (Range Officer Demarcation Division-I) and Bhishamber Singh (Range Officer Bahu Range) as members.

The Panel has been asked to demarcate the land and submit a report within 15 days.

Sources told the Excelsior that 10-12 plots on the land have been allegedly encroached upon by the ex-MLC Hussain Mohammad, with construction already underway on a few.

They said the DFO Jammu intervened in the matter only after receiving multiple complaints from several local residents regarding encroachment of the prime land by the former MLC for plotting and selling.
